What's New

04.14.23

Next time you're visiting us at our building grab one of our new postcards!! Our friend Codey Richards rendered this up for us and I just really loved watching our vision come to life.

The photo the postcard is based on is a snap from our building from 1976 that came from the jeffco courthouse archives and has always been such a treasure. I included a colorized version Codey created - it brought so much life to that old photo. (See below).

Our spot in Forest Park is in a strange crossroads and many people drive by it without knowing it was Birmingham’s first fine dining restaurant called “Gigi’s in the Park”. Mid-century perfection and just full of history.

It comes to no surprise that Savoie Catering embarks on its 12-year anniversary as one of Birmingham’s top catering companies. With timeless dishes such as Gulf Coast Crab Cakes, Southern Caviar, and Smoky Chicken Kabobs, our belief in deliciousness and professionalism remains steady. We have expanded, learned, and grown. However, with growth comes change, and nothing lasts forever. In 2021, we as a company were faced with the bittersweet announcement of Chef Richard Bishop’s retirement. With this news, Savoie Catering’s leadership was directed towards the one solution that made sense. It is our honor to announce that Savoie’s new owner is our former General Manager, Nico Berg.

For the past 10 years, Nico has collaborated alongside Alabama’s top event workers, helping build Savoie Catering into the exceptional company that it is today. Because of her dedication to the company, the industry, and the above and beyond commitment she has to her clients, Savoie will continue to grow as one of Alabama’s leading event companies.

From the Sidewalk Film Festival, Bham Femme Group, and the World Games of 2022 (to name a few!), Nico continues to showcase the exceptional quality of what Birmingham has to offer. “I’ve always enjoyed working with others and I’m very proud of Birmingham’s food and service scene. It bonds us in a special way where it feels like community and not competition.”

She is a true believer in the personal aspects of the work that she does. The food, the relationships, the stories, they all matter to Nico. To her, Savoie doesn’t have ‘just clients’, they have stories to tell and meaning behind the occasion that they hold. “I’m in this business because food brings people together. It doesn’t matter if you’re celebrating a birthday party with five guests or a wedding with 500 guests...When I sit down and meet with people, I see my own family in them. That is something that drives me.” With Nico as our leader, we will continue to represent what is seasonal, comforting, and classic in the upscale southern food scene. Cheers!

Although this is technically not considered “new news” I thought it would be fun to introduce the faces of our event managers here at Savoie. These are the fabulous people who make our events seamless!

Kellie Painter: Savoie’s favorite Office Manager! When you call our office line or email your event details, Kellie is the voice on the other line. Not only does she she help book all of our fabulous parties she is our Senior Event Manager (aka Jane of all traits). One thing everyone knows about Kellie is she LOVES food and has no problem telling you about her favorites or trending items. Give this gal a hug next time you see her at an event, she deserves it!

Gena Gunn: Next runner up is this fab Event Manager! Her infectious smile can light up a whole room. She has many talents but one of her best attributes are those buffet setups. This lady is super creative and makes our food shine. Thank you Gena for your hard work, dedication and laughter you bring to our team. We love you!

Zac Peoples: Where to begin with Zac? His aim for perfection is one of his most useful tools. He’s organized, inventive and can take on any task big or small. Zac can start a conversation with anyone, his cool and calm personality aims to please. Thank you for everything you do for us here at Savoie. We couldn’t take on these events without you!

Gregg Mahaffey: An introduction to our newest Event Manager! He fits in so well at Savoie that it feels like he’s always been here. Attention to detail is his specialty. Gregg seems to be one step ahead which is such an important tool to have during these events. His eagerness has always turned heads and many have asked “WHO is that?”- well it’s Gregg doing his thing. Thank you Gregg, we love having you be a part of our team!

As the seasons change, so does life! After many years with the same chef we are excited to announce that we have hired someone new to run the operations in our Kitchen.

You may have heard of her… AIMEE BISHOP was the one making all those tasty desserts as our pastry chef. She has now taken over management of our kitchen at Savoie. She brings a broad spectrum of experience with food styling, editing, private dinners, pastry arts and now oversees the fabulous events we pump out every weekly.

We are looking forward to her new role at Savoie!

In response to COVID-19:

What a surreal world we have been thrown into! The safety of our clients and our employees is our top priority. Please know that we are doing everything we can to comply with Alabama’s rules regarding sanitation and the ‘shelter in place’ order. The past few weeks have been very difficult for many in our community and ESPECIALLY for our amazing couples who have had put their lives and weddings on hold. HOWEVER- watching everyone come together, feeling the love and support has been an experience in itself. Although this is a difficult time we KNOW we will come out on the other side stronger, fueled, thankful for this industry and business we have built.

To our fellow caterers, event vendors and the local businesses that we love- hang in there. We can’t wait to jump back into action when this is all behind us.
